The Newcastle Male Chorus is now regarded as one of the North's premier male choirs. Launched in 1984 as a result of an advertisement in the local press, the choir has always adhered closely to the aims of our founders, to promote excellence in male voice singing and to foster good fellowship among members.

One of the choir's founders, the Musical Director Mr. Norman Williams B.A., was able to serve the choir for 18 years before his death in September 2002, when his wife Mrs. Doris Williams (Musical Director of ladies choir 'The Gibside Singers'), took the helm, continuing the successes which her husband had achieved earlier.

The choir were prize winners in four successive years in Huddersfield Male Voice Championship, and won first prize at Stockton, Morecambe, Harrogate, Eskdale and Derwentside Festivals.

The choir has taken part in concerts in Newcastle City Hall, Gibside Chapel, Durham and Blackburn Cathedrals, and Hexham Abbey and in 1997 sang in a massed choir concert for Cancer Research in the Royal Albert Hall, a programme which was repeated in November 2000 in Sheffield Arena.

Highlights of the year 2002 have been two concerts with Russell Watson and Hayley Westenra and the Gibside Singers at both the Newastle Arena and the Glasgow SECC in front of audiences of 4,500 and 9,500.

The choir achieved festival successes in March and June in 2004 at Ryton and Eskdale Festivals, and are looking forward to a busy autumn (2006) season which includes the Annual Concert at the People's Theatre, when they have as their guests soloists from the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
